A Bluedot Favorite Read: ‘In Praise of Paths’

Category:

Bluedot’s Digital Media Manager (and Good Libations columnist!) Julia Cooper recently loved the book In Praise of Paths by Torbjorn Ekelund.

“I picked this up at Bunch of Grapes on Martha’s Vineyard on Indie Bookstore Day,” Cooper tells us. “The author was diagnosed with epilepsy so lost his driver's license and started walking everywhere. The book is a philosophical/sociological exploration of how humans interact with nature on foot.”

From the back of the book:

‘As he walks with shoes on and barefoot, through forest creeks and across urban streets, he contemplates the early tracks made by ancient snails and traces the wanderings of Romantic poets, among other musings. If we understand ourselves in relation to the landscape, Ekelund asks, then what do we lose in an era of car travel and navigation apps? And what will we gain from taking to paths once again?’
