That Day 243 Eagles Left the Nest 

The class of 2023 donned caps and gowns this past Sunday for their graduation ceremony  at the Shanghai International Dance Center. Joined  by their friends, family, and even our favorite alumna Betty Barr, who has attended almost every single SAS graduation for as long as we can remember, these grads accepted their diploma and their new status as SAS alums.  
 

 

 


But as these grads walked off the stage, we knew they were carrying far more than a diploma. They were also carrying with them the passion to be lifelong learners, the ability to live with integrity and compassion, and the confidence and courage to pursue their dreams.  
 

 

 


The celebration didn’t stop after the ceremony, though. Thanks to the generosity from the Ye/Xu family, who themselves are a multi-generational SAS family, a congratulatory message on the Citigroup building on the Bund dedicated to this year’s graduates lit up the night sky. The message ran throughout the night and created the perfect photo backdrop.  
 

 

 

Congratulations Pudong and Puxi class of 2023! We look forward to your next chapter in life.

Black History Month: Celebrating Excellence

Since Shanghai American School’s inaugural Black History Month celebrations are taking place throughout February, students are learning more about the unsung Black heroes that gave their blood, sweat and tears to help make the world a better place. More so, it’s creating opportunities for discussion about diversity and equality. Teachers have poured their hearts and souls into creating exciting and engaging activities for students from Elementary all the way through to High School. There are book displays and readings by mystery guests, to trivia and photo galleries, and dressing in the pan-African colors: black, red, yellow and green.
